Web Desk — Asad Umar, Federal Planning Minister, has warned that the new COVID-19 variant will inevitably come to Pakistan due to the alarming surge of cases of the new coronavirus strain, Omicron, around the world.
Asad Umar, speaking at a joint press conference alongside Dr. Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health, said the country has only a few weeks to contain the Omicron threat.
Omicron is more dangerous and infectious than other Coronavirus strains, according to initial reports, said the minister.
Umar said vaccination is the only effective method of preventing Omicron, adding that the government would launch a massive vaccination campaign across the country within two to three days.

“We cannot stop Omicron, but we can reduce its consequences by taking preventive measures,” he said.
According to the minister, the government is tightening restrictions on overseas passengers and increasing testing capacity in high-risk areas.
He urged the masses to get themselves fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.
