14 Children Die as Roof Collapses at Tuition Center in Kahna, Lahore

Kahna tuition center roof collapse kills 14 children

LAHORE – At least 14 children, aged between 12 and 15, lost their lives when the roof of a tuition center collapsed in the Kahna Nau area of Lahore on Tuesday. Rescue officials confirmed that 35 children and a female teacher were present at the tuition center at the time of the incident.

The collapse occurred at approximately 4:45 PM in the Ahluwali Gali neighborhood. According to police, construction work was underway on the upper floor of the building while children were studying on the ground floor. The roof was made of TR girders, and tiles were being laid on the upper floor at the time of the collapse.

Rescue Operation and Casualties

Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the alert and recovered all trapped children from the debris. Emergency officials reported that 19 injured children were transported to hospitals, with five of them reported to be in stable condition. The death toll is feared to rise as some of the injured remain in critical condition.

Arrests and Investigation

Police have taken three individuals into custody, including the owner of the house and the mistri (construction worker) responsible for the work on the upper floor. The female teacher, who is the wife of the building owner, was also injured in the incident and has been arrested.

CM Maryam Nawaz’s Response

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed deep grief over the tragedy and extended condolences to the affected families. She directed authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured children. The Chief Minister stated that those responsible for negligence will be brought to justice and that no leniency will be shown. She has also ordered a comprehensive inspection of safety standards in educational institutions across Punjab.
