In a significant diplomatic development, US President Donald Trump has openly expressed support for Pakistan in the ongoing conflict with Afghanistan, stating that he will not interfere as Pakistan is handling the situation well.
Speaking to media outside the White House, President Trump was asked whether he would intervene in the Pakistan-Afghanistan conflict. His response marked a clear endorsement of Pakistan’s position.
“I would, but you know, I have very good relations with Pakistan. I think Pakistan is moving forward in a very splendid manner. Pakistan is doing great with Afghanistan. I won’t interfere,” Trump stated.
The US President specifically praised Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership, describing them as individuals he deeply respects.
“Pakistan has a great Prime Minister and great Generals. They have great leadership. These are two personalities that I truly respect very, very much,” Trump said, in an apparent reference to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal General Asim Munir.
Trump’s remarks come at a time when Pakistan is engaged in Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq, a decisive military response to unprovoked aggression by the Afghan Taliban regime along the border. The operation has resulted in significant losses for the Afghan regime, with Pakistani forces destroying over 74 enemy posts and capturing 18 check posts.
The US President’s statement is seen as a major diplomatic victory for Pakistan, effectively giving Islamabad a free hand in its border management and counter-terrorism operations against groups operating from Afghan soil.
Trump’s refusal to interfere and his endorsement of Pakistan’s approach signals continuity in US policy that recognizes Pakistan’s right to defend its sovereignty against cross-border terrorism.
The international community has been closely watching the escalating tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Trump’s open support for Pakistan may influence other nations’ positions on the conflict and could have implications for future diplomatic engagements in the region.
The Pakistan-Afghanistan border has witnessed heightened tensions following unprovoked firing by Afghan Taliban forces at multiple locations. Pakistan’s Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq was launched in response to these aggressions and the continued use of Afghan soil by terrorist groups targeting Pakistan.
