Turkey intends to establish a facility in Pakistan to manufacture advanced combat drones and is also interested in including Pakistan in its fifth-generation fighter aircraft program.
According to Bloomberg, Ankara aims to expand its defense industry in international markets and, as part of this strategy, plans to set up a drone-assembly factory inside Pakistan. Turkish officials familiar with the matter say that talks on this project have made significant progress since October.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the officials told Bloomberg that under the plan, components for stealth and long-range drones would be exported from Turkey to Pakistan, where they would then be assembled.
So far, neither Turkish nor Pakistani authorities have commented on the report. Bloomberg also notes that Turkey is working on warship production for the Pakistan Navy under a joint manufacturing agreement.
Turkey has already upgraded dozens of Pakistan’s F-16 fighter jets, and now seeks Islamabad’s participation in its next-generation fighter aircraft program.
The report adds that Turkey has announced several defense agreements this year, including a fighter-jet order from Indonesia, as well as plans to supply additional weapons to Saudi Arabia and Syria.
