The opposition alliance has announced a nationwide movement against the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment. The announcement was made by Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas.
Speaking to the media, the head of the opposition alliance, Mehmood Khan Achakzai, said that the people are not being acknowledged, therefore “we are going to the public.” He added that since the government is shaking the very foundations of the Constitution, there is no option left but to launch a movement. “Our nationwide campaign will begin tonight,” he declared.
Achakzai said that the slogans of the movement will be ‘Long live democracy, down with dictatorship,’ and a third slogan will focus on the release of political prisoners.
He further stated, “We will show that whatever the people of Pakistan desire will be the ultimate decision. We will prove that the Constitution is supreme and that Parliament is the true source of power.”
