Web Desk: Under U.S. mediation, Pakistan and India have agreed to a complete and immediate ceasefire. President Donald Trump makes a major announcement on Pakistan-India tensions.
President Trump announced on social media that Pakistan and India have agreed to an immediate ceasefire following extensive late-night talks with both parties under U.S. mediation.
Congratulating both nations and their people, President Trump said the ceasefire would take effect immediately.
According to President Trump, the decision by both countries to agree to a ceasefire was wise, and the United States played the role of mediator. He thanked both sides for their attention and cooperation in resolving the matter.
The U.S. President’s announcement comes at a time when, last night, the Pakistan Army launched a missile strike on India, reportedly causing significant damage.
Before President Trump’s statement, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had contacted Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif by phone, offering American mediation to de-escalate tensions.
According to Rubio, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and Asim Malik were all involved in the discussions.
Rubio added, “I am pleased to announce that the governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire.”
Tensions had escalated following Indian aggression in response to the Pahalgam attack in Indian-occupied Kashmir, which triggered a series of cross-border skirmishes.
