Govt Decides To Reduce Electricity Prices

reduction in electricity prices

Web Desk: The federal government has decided to significantly reduce electricity prices, with an expected reduction of Rs 2 per unit for the second quarter of the fiscal year 2024-25. Power distribution companies have already submitted their adjustment requests to NEPRA.

If NEPRA approves the request, the reduction in electricity prices will take effect from March 2025. This decision is expected to provide the public relief of over Rs 52 billion.

NEPRA has scheduled a public hearing on the requests for 12th February 2025. If the reduction is approved, it will impact March, April, and May 2025 electricity rates.

Under this quarterly adjustment, K-Electric consumers will also benefit, while lifeline consumers will not be eligible for this relief.

This move is part of the government’s efforts to alleviate the burden of inflation and provide relief to the public through reduced electricity bills.
