Vawda Presented Expired Passport: SC

Faisal Vawda expired passport

Web Desk — Faisal Vawda’s appeal in the Supreme Court against disqualification for life brought him embarrassment on Wednesday when the court pointed out that he presented an expired passport at the time of filing nomination papers for the 2018 general election to support his claim about renunciation of US nationality.

Justice Ayesha Malik pointed out that the documents presented by the petitioner showed that the American passport had already expired in 2015. She also questioned when did the petitioner renounce his US nationality.

Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah wondered if the petitioner had presented a ‘forged’ passport which amounted to dishonesty while providing an expired passport was ‘trickery’. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah asked, “Are you trivializing the courts?”

Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, who is heading the 3-judge bench, also remarked that this was a serious issue.
