Famous Pakistani stage actress Robi Anam recently made some emotional and startling revelations about her personal life on Neo News with Wasi Shah.
In a heartfelt conversation, Robi Anam opened up about her regrets, past struggles, and the price she paid for pursuing a career in stage acting.
While answering Wasi Shah’s candid questions, Robi Anam revealed that her husband, Azhar Butt, is fully aware of all her past relationships. She said, “I have always been truthful with him. I told him everything about my past because I simply cannot lie. It’s not in my nature to hide the truth.”
Her Biggest Regret
The conversation took a deeply emotional turn when Robi Anam spoke about her life’s biggest regret — her decision to enter the stage drama industry. Fighting back tears, she admitted that her stubbornness to work in stage plays cost her many close relationships. “If I could speak to my father today, who is no longer in this world, I would tell him that my biggest regret is choosing stage dramas over my relationships,” she said, breaking down into tears. The atmosphere on the set became visibly emotional as she struggled to contain her emotions.
Robi Anam further shared that although her family initially opposed her joining stage dramas, her father, who adored her deeply, never stopped her from pursuing her passion. “I was my father’s favorite child. He fulfilled all my wishes, including this one. But after his passing, my entire life changed. Whenever I face difficulties now, I cry and miss my father,” she said.
How Religious Scholars Helped Change Her Life
Robi Anam also credited renowned Islamic scholars, Maulana Tariq Jameel and her former co-star Jawad Wasim, for playing a major role in helping her transform her life. “They guided me spiritually and helped me rediscover my path,” she said. She expressed regret towards her father, saying she feels ashamed for convincing him to allow her to work in stage dramas.
Late Marriage and Family Pressure
Discussing her personal life further, Robi Anam revealed that she married later in life. “I was never in favor of getting married,” she said. However, after her father’s death, her mother insisted that she should settle down. At one point, she wished to marry a man who was already married, but her mother opposed this proposal.
Eventually, Robi Anam agreed to an arranged marriage. She married Azhar, who belongs to Kashmir, and they have now been happily married for 17 years. Speaking about her husband, she said, “Azhar groomed me, taught me about fashion, and helped me shape my personality.”
The Challenges Faced by Women in Pakistan’s Stage Industry
Robi Anam’s story highlights not just her personal journey but also the struggles that many women face in Pakistan’s entertainment industry — especially stage dramas. The stage sector in Pakistan has long been criticized for its difficult working environment, cultural taboos, and family pressures, often forcing women to choose between career and personal life.
Today, Robi Anam hopes her story serves as a lesson for others who might be facing similar challenges in life.
