Finally, Golden Eye 007 Coming On Xbox, Nintendo Switch

Web Desk — Finally, GoldenEye 007 is coming to Nintendo Switch and Xbox One. A remaster of the legendary 1997 Nintendo 64 title GoldenEye 007 HD will soon be available for Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.

Xbox’s remastered version includes 4K resolution, smoother frame rates, and split-screen local multiplayer. According to a post on the official 007 website, the online multiplayer modes will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch version and Xbox Game Pass.

The Verge reports that Microsoft confirmed the Xbox lack of online multiplayer mode and that the Xbox and Nintendo Switch versions are actually different. According to Microsoft, it made a “faithful recreation” of GoldenEye 007, whereas Nintendo appears to be using the original. Neither platform has announced a release date for GoldenEye 007 yet.

Besides dual analog sticks and native 16:9 aspect ratio at up to 4K resolution on Xbox, the classic campaign mode and cheat modes will return. Those who already own a digital copy of Rare Replay will receive GoldenEye 007 for free.

In 2008, an HD remaster was supposed to launch on Xbox 360, but licensing and rights issues complicated the deal. It leaked last year, complete with the original single-player campaign and local split-screen multiplayer. For the first time, GoldenEye 007 has been remastered for Xbox and Nintendo Switch.

GoldenEye 007 N64 has been remade many times, including an attempt by Activision that was nothing like the original. Many fans have also remade GoldenEye 007 using various engines, but one project has been blocked by lawyers from rights holders MGM. In 2000, Rare created a spiritual successor, Perfect Dark. In 2010, it was remastered with a similar style and upgraded engine, but it was a new and original IP.

Nintendo Switch Online is also getting Pokémon Stadium, Mario Party, Pilotwings 64, 1080° Snowboarding, and Excitebike 64 in addition to GoldenEye 007.
