Citing "notable progress" in negotiations, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani claimed on Wednesday that the US and the Taliban appeared closer to a breakthrough in talks over the issue of American troops' withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Washington and the Taliban have been busy in tiring discussions that stretched over more than a year for a deal that would lead to the pulling out of US troops from Afghanistan.
In return, the Taliban would provide various security guarantees and start talks with the Kabul government. A Taliban source told AFP that the Taliban and US negotiators would meet again in Doha.
The New York Times reported that US President Donald Trump had given conditional approval to a deal with the Taliban.
