LAHORE<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Prime Minister\u00a0Shehbaz Sharif\u00a0has ordered the immediate suspension of eight officials at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad including its Executive Director,\u00a0Professor Dr. Imran Sikander, and directed that criminal proceedings be initiated against them without exception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision was made during a high-level meeting in Lahore on Saturday, where the interim report of the committee investigating the tragic fire at PIMS was reviewed, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials Suspended<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The following individuals have been suspended pending further investigation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Muhammad Usman<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Assistant Director of Security<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Abdul Rehman<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 DG Emergency Services, CDA<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Dr. Sadia Riaz<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Head of Neonatal Department<\/li>\n\n\n\n

    Heroic Nurse to be Recognized<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The Prime Minister also approved awarding a\u00a0Star of Service\u00a0to the nurse who saved a child’s life before the fire spread throughout the ward. She will be recognized for her bravery and quick action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    New Leadership Appointed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Dr. Muhammad Salman\u00a0has been appointed as the acting Executive Director of PIMS, following the suspension of Dr. Imran Sikander.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    “Those guilty of criminal negligence deserve no leniency. The perpetrators of the PIMS tragedy will be brought to justice. The death of innocent children is such a tragic event that the entire nation is grieving. Those responsible will be given exemplary punishment.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
