WASHINGTON, D.C.<\/strong> \u2013 The Trump administration has released dozens of previously classified government files related to Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs), Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), and potential extraterrestrial life, in what officials are calling an “unprecedented” move toward transparency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pentagon, along with the FBI, State Department, NASA, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, published the first batch of approximately 170 files on a newly launched government website, war.gov\/ufo . The release includes documents spanning from 1947 to early 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apollo Missions Featured Prominently in Files<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Among the most striking materials are photographs and transcripts from NASA’s Apollo lunar missions in the late 1960s and early 1970s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A transcript from the Apollo 17 mission includes pilot Ronald Evans reporting: “a few very bright particles or fragments or something that go drifting by as we maneuver”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another crew member, Harrison Schmitt, described the scene outside their window as looking “like the Fourth of July,” according to the declassified documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pentagon noted that while some images had been previously released, there is “no consensus about the nature of the anomaly,” and a “new preliminary US government analysis suggests the image feature is potentially the result of a physical object in the scene”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Military Videos Show Erratic Movements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The release includes more than 20 video files captured by military sensors in locations ranging from Syria and Iraq to Japan and North America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One particularly striking video from the Middle East in 2013 shows an object shaped like an “eight-pointed star” weaving through the air. A separate video captures an unidentified object executing “multiple 90-degree turns at an estimated 80 mph” over the Aegean Sea in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other documents describe metallic elliptical objects floating in mid-air, and infrared footage capturing unexplained sightings across various theaters of operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A State Department cable from the US Embassy in Tajikistan (1994) details how a Tajik pilot and three Americans observed a brightly lit UAP over Kazakhstan, with the object “making 90 degree turns, doing corkscrews and maneuvering in circles at great rates of speed”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Unprecedented Transparency’ or Political Distraction?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

President Trump announced the release on his Truth Social platform, writing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Whereas previous Administrations have failed to be transparent on this subject, with these new Documents and Videos, the people can decide for themselves, ‘WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?’ Have Fun and Enjoy!”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth<\/strong> echoed the sentiment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“These files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled justified speculation \u2014 and it’s time the American people see it for themselves,”<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new records are part of a broader interagency effort called PURSUE<\/strong> (Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters), which Trump ordered in February 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
