The nation is celebrating the 86th Pakistan Day with great enthusiasm and national spirit, as the country marks the anniversary of the historic Lahore Resolution of 1940, which laid the foundation for the creation of a separate homeland for Muslims of the subcontinent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A public holiday has been declared across the country, with various official ceremonies and events organized to commemorate the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The day began with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes in all provincial capitals, honoring the significance of the occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After Fajr prayers, special prayers were offered in mosques across the nation for the integrity, development, and prosperity of the beloved homeland. Pakistan Army soldiers present at the gun salute ceremonies raised the slogan of “Takbeer”, with the atmosphere echoing with cries of “Allah-o-Akbar” and “Pakistan Zindabad.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year, in light of the tense situation in the Middle East and under the Prime Minister’s austerity campaign, Pakistan Day is being observed with simplicity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The traditional military parade, which usually showcases Pakistan’s defense capabilities and cultural diversity, has been canceled. The central flag-hoisting ceremony was also conducted with simplicity, reflecting the government’s commitment to fiscal prudence during challenging times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A impressive guard-changing ceremony was held at the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal in Lahore, where a smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Air Force presented a splendid march past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the ceremony, the Pakistan Air Force took over the ceremonial guard duties at the tomb of the national poet, paying tribute to the man who dreamt of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pakistan Day marks the anniversary of the Lahore Resolution passed on March 23, 1940, at Minto Park (now Iqbal Park), where the All-India Muslim League formally demanded a separate homeland for the Muslims of the Indian subcontinent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first Pakistan Day was celebrated on March 23, 1959. From 1948 to 1955, the day was observed as a regular holiday. Seven years after independence, under the leadership of President Iskander Mirza and Prime Minister Chaudhry Muhammad Ali, Pakistan’s first indigenous constitution was promulgated on March 23, 1956. The new constitution declared Pakistan Day as a permanent commemorative day, and it was decided that the day would henceforth be celebrated annually as Republic Day with great fervor on March 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
