According to Iranian media reports, in the <strong>open market<\/strong>, one US dollar was recently exchanged for approximately <strong>1,250,000 rials<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For comparison, during <strong>Donald Trump\u2019s presidency in 2018<\/strong>, one dollar was equivalent to around <strong>55,000 rials<\/strong>. Since then, the Iranian currency has been in a steady decline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Economic experts attribute the drop to the government\u2019s recent <strong>economic liberalization policies<\/strong>, which have put further pressure on the open market. Ordinary citizens are increasingly buying foreign currency to meet daily necessities, while businesses mostly rely on the government\u2019s official exchange rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Iran\u2019s semi-official <strong>Fars News Agency<\/strong>, allowing importers to purchase dollars from the open market for essential goods has driven up the <strong>demand for dollars<\/strong>, causing prices to skyrocket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>World Bank<\/strong> predicts that Iran\u2019s economy could shrink by <strong>1.7% in 2025<\/strong> and <strong>2.8% in 2026<\/strong>, raising concerns about a potential recession.
