The federal cabinet has approved a ban on Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP). The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the official statement, the cabinet was briefed on the group\u2019s violent and extremist activities across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement noted that the organization, established in 2016, has been involved in inciting unrest throughout Pakistan, leading to several violent incidents in different regions. In 2021, the then government had imposed a ban on TLP, which was lifted six months later on the condition that the group would refrain from violence and lawlessness in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cabinet statement added that the fresh ban has been imposed due to the group\u2019s violation of the assurances it gave in 2021. It also recalled that during TLP\u2019s past violent protests and rallies, security personnel and innocent bystanders had lost their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On recommendations of the federal cabinet, the federal interior ministry has placed a ban on the TTP and issued notification in this regard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move follows violent protests, vandalism, and the killing of police personnel in Punjab. A week earlier, the Punjab government had sent a recommendation to the Ministry of Interior to impose a ban on the group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
