{"id":558,"date":"2021-09-21T19:14:06","date_gmt":"2021-09-21T19:14:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsmakers.com.pk\/en\/?p=558"},"modified":"2021-09-21T19:14:08","modified_gmt":"2021-09-21T19:14:08","slug":"new-tax-ordinance-frightens-pakistans-business-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsmakers.com.pk\/en\/business\/new-tax-ordinance-frightens-pakistans-business-community\/558\/","title":{"rendered":"New Tax Ordinance Frightens Pakistan&#8217;s Business Community"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>KARACHI: (Web Desk) <\/strong>Federal Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin says out of a total of<strong> <\/strong>2.9 million tax return filers, one million filers are those that show zero taxable income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The finance minister said this during a meeting with the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Former KCCI president Zubair Motiwala, on this occasion, expressed serious concerns over the newly promulgated tax ordinance saying the ordinance had frightened people around the country because of the term &#8216;under filer&#8217; which needed to be removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Motiwala further said that instead of appreciating the filers and acting strictly against the non-filers, the ordinance targetted the existing filers too by tagging them as under filers, which would open new ways of corruption and harassment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Motiwala stressed that the term &#8216;under filer&#8217; must be expunged from the new ordinance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tarin however clarified that victimization and harassment were not the purposes of the new law.
