Web Desk<\/strong> — Authorities are planning to scan bank lockers with the help of special devices across the countries in a massive crackdown against the hoarding of US dollars, electronic media has reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, officials from the State Bank and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have denied reports regarding the scanning of bank lockers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dawn quoted the State Bank’s spokesperson as saying that no such move has been initiated, nor it is possible to scan lockers from the outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to FIA officials, a crackdown against smuggling is underway but scanning of lockers is not in the pipeline. They have also denied reports that lists of people buying US dollars in bulk were being generated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The interim government has already initiated a country-wide crackdown against the smuggling of dollars, which is entering the next phase now. Media reports suggest that intelligence agencies, the central bank, and an investigation agency are gearing up for the grand operation against the dollar mafia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Media quoted sources as saying that the institutions tasked to lead the operation have gathered two years of data on exchange companies. Similarly, a list of people buying dollars in bulk has been prepared and authorities believe that dollars were dumped in bank lockers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Aaj News, sources said lockers could be scanned without being opened by using modern technology and devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
