Besides OpenAI, the companies that came up with the assurance include Anthropic, Amazon, Google, Meta, Inflection, and Microsoft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a White House release, the commitments these companies chose to undertake immediately as fundamental to the AI future are safety, security, and trust – marking a critical step toward the responsible use of AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It has become a matter of serious concern that the image or audio created by artificial intelligence may be used for fraud and misinformation as technology improves and the 2024 US presidential election gets closer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Options are under research to tell people when audio or imagery has been generated artificially to prevent them from being duped by fakes that look or sound real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The White House official said that the companies are committing to setting up a broader regime towards making it easier for consumers to know whether the content is AI-generated or not. The official further said that the technical work is underway in this regard but it must be crystal clear that it applies to audio and visual content, and it will be part of a broader system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the White House, companies are committing to going for independent testing of AI systems for risks when it comes to biosecurity, cybersecurity, or \u201csocietal effects\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
EU commissioner Thierry Breton discussed the issue of watermarks for AI-generated content with OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman during a visit to San Francisco last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Breton wrote in a tweet, \u201cLooking forward to pursuing our discussions \u2014 notably on watermarking.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The White House vowed to also work with allies to establish an international framework to govern the development and use of AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stuart Russell, who teaches computer science at the University of California, says humans should be sure to make AI products that benefit humans. He said if systems are going to be more intelligent than us, it is absolutely essential for us to guarantee that AI does things that we are happy with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Russel says, in the future, many of today’s jobs that require a lot of physical labor will be replaced by AI machines. The agriculture sector may lose most jobs as artificial intelligence develops in the future. Jobs with repetitive duties like telephone call centers, jobs in the financial industry, and those that require studying a lot of data will most probably be replaced by AI-created machines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Russel warns we won’t have mass employment in manufacturing or in financial services. He said most people will be employed, possibly even self-employed, in providing individualized personal services to other human beings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Guruduth Banavar, IBM\u2019s Chief Science Officer of Cognitive Computing, sees a future where new jobs such as data engineering will be created. According to Banavar, the future will require everybody to work with these learning reasoning machines. He said the skill set for many of these jobs will end up being different in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Artificial intelligence has already revolutionized the healthcare industry. By processing huge amounts of data, AI can help doctors find the most up-to-date information to diagnose and treat patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Artificial intelligence has a dangerous side too. Combining drone aircraft technology and AI to create autonomous weapons is one example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stuart Russell fears that people may use this technology to develop a kind of \u201cpoor man\u2019s nuclear weapon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The debate on the pros and cons of artificial intelligence will continue. Here at this point, we can’t categorically say whether AI is good or bad for humans.
