Web Desk — The Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination has confirmed two cases of monkeypox in Pakistan. The affected people had traveled to the country from abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Health Ministry officials, one person with symptoms of monkeypox was deported from Saudi Arabia while another person sitting with him on the flight did show mpox symptoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The samples of the affected people were sent to the National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad, and a day earlier, the facility confirmed that they were carriers of the infectious virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Monkeypox is a rare disease and its current outbreak that began in May 2022 has affected over 78,000 people. The World Health Organization (WHO) has been watching the situation and it has provided necessary help to affected countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mpox (monkeypox) is a viral disease. It is caused by the monkeypox virus, a species of the genus Orthopoxvirus. Two different clades exist \u2014 clade I and clade II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the common symptoms of monkeypox or mpox are a skin rash or mucosal lesions which can last 2\u20134 weeks. Other symptoms are fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mpox travels from one human to another through physical contact with someone who is infectious, with contaminated materials, or with infected animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The disease is treated with supportive care. Vaccines and therapeutics developed for smallpox can be used for monkeypox in some circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
