CEO Andy Jassy said, “Between the reductions we made in November and the ones we\u2019re sharing today, we plan to eliminate just over 18,000 roles.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amazon had announced 10,000 layoffs in November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jassy explained the company didn’t take these decisions lightly and was “deeply aware” that these role eliminations were difficult for people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are working to support those who are affected and are providing packages that include a separation payment, transitional health insurance benefits, and external job placement support,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jassay said that Some of the layoffs would be in Europe and that the affected workers would be informed starting on January 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
